Otselic Valley Central School is an alternative public school serving grades PK-12 in South Otselic, New York, with 290 students and a relatively high percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a lower socioeconomic status of the student population.

The school has faced some challenges, with varying four-year graduation rates ranging from 80% to 92.3% in recent years, which are generally lower than the state average. Otselic Valley Central School has also had high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 31.5% to 40.2%, significantly higher than the state average. The school's performance on state assessments is generally lower than the state and district averages across various subjects and grade levels, with proficiency rates in English Language Arts and Math projected to be well below the state averages in the 2024-2025 school year.

Interestingly, the only nearby school included in the data is the Delaware-Chenango-Madison-Otsego BOCES, an alternative school serving a wider geographic area, which has a much lower student-teacher ratio of 4:1 compared to Otselic Valley Central School's 12.6:1 ratio. The BOCES school also has a higher percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch, suggesting that it serves a population with even greater economic challenges. The significant variations in Otselic Valley Central School's spending per student, from $17,823 in the 2020-2021 school year to $42,450 in the 2023-2024 school year, may also be a reflection of broader funding challenges or changes in the Otselic Valley Central School District or state's education budget.

Open Quote As if this district wasnt bad enough to begin with if you had to deal with the new leadership they brought in you would move like we intend to !! Stay away is all I have to say !! Dont bother trying to complain about the way you student is being treated by a teacher! It doesnt matter if your child has never gotten in any trouble ever . If you have a complaint they automaticly blame your child. Dont bother raisinig your hand in class for help if your a student!!! you wont get it if your in 6th grade math ! your on your own!! Even if you have a 504 plan. They say open door policy, thats only if you have nothing to say!! Complaints are not heard ,as soon as you try to voice your opinion or ?s a teacher they threaten to stop the meeting!!Im sad they replaced the principal, I never thought I would miss the old one .But its only the 3rd week of school with this new one and I do. I bet the dropout rate this yr will be very high ,its sad really !!If you have a choice dont move into this district!!! I will have my kids out of here by the holidays no matter what it takes!!! I feel sorry for the few good teachers that are there,It saddens me that they have to deal with such garbage at the helm. This is the first time in 25 yrs of putting children threw school that Im completely discusted with a district.
