Open Quote We have had our children in Menands Elementary School since 2009. Mrs. Meanie was the school superintendent and we loved her but she has since retired. Mrs. Meanie was fair, had children of her own, didn't take crap and kept the school in check. We now have a new superintendent; Maureen A. Long whom insists you call her Dr. Long even though she is not a Medical Doctor (yes I said it) and the school is going downhill. We are experiencing bullying, items getting stolen and nothing being done about it. She has no children of her own, no previous experience overseeing schools. We have noticed a big change in the teachers’ demeanor as well, you can tell they are not as happy as they once were in previous years. They will tell the kids in class, sorry, you have to do this test because Dr. Long said so or you must learn something a certain way even if you are not comprehending it because Dr. Long insists it be done this way. This is being stated over and over again. We have had a huge influx of children from other areas including from different countries and if they are of a certain skin color, they can get away with anything. No consequences. I'm so sad to state that if you have a choice of other schools to send your kids to, do it. Menands is not the same any longer and Dr. Long could care less. She's on a 3 year contract.
