Summary

Odyssey Academy is a public high school serving grades 6-12 in the Greece Central School District in Rochester, NY, with 892 students. Despite its larger size, the school has consistently underperformed the district and state averages on key metrics, ranking in the bottom half of New York high schools.

Academically, Odyssey Academy struggles across the board, with proficiency rates well below state levels in English Language Arts, math, and Regents exams. For example, in 2024-2025, only 34.09% of 6th graders were proficient in ELA compared to 50.86% statewide, and just 15.58% of 7th graders were proficient in math. The school's 4-year graduation rate also hovers around 84-87%, slightly below the state average, and its dropout rate is higher than the state's. Additionally, Odyssey Academy spends significantly more per student than nearby schools, but this does not appear to translate into better outcomes or smaller class sizes.

Interestingly, Odyssey Academy is located very close to other Greece Central School District high schools, as well as charter schools in the Rochester area, all of which struggle academically in similar ways. This suggests that the challenges faced by Odyssey Academy may be systemic issues within the broader educational landscape, rather than unique to the school itself. Addressing these broader concerns will be crucial in improving the performance of Odyssey Academy and other schools in the region.
