Summary

Frank A Sedita School #30 is an elementary school in the Buffalo City School District, serving grades PK-8 with 604 students. Despite the school's high per-student spending and low student-teacher ratio, it has consistently ranked among the lowest-performing elementary schools in New York state over the past decade.

The school significantly underperforms the district and state in proficiency rates for English Language Arts and Math across all grade levels. For example, in 2024-2025, only 33.33% of 3rd graders were proficient in ELA compared to 54.15% statewide, and only 51.43% were proficient in Math compared to 59.7% statewide. The school also struggles to serve its diverse student population, with African American, Hispanic, English Language Learner, Special Education, and Low Socioeconomic Status students all ranking in the bottom 20-30% of their respective groups statewide.

Interestingly, the nearby Waterfront Elementary School, International School, and D'Youville-Porter Campus also struggle with low academic performance, but generally outperform Frank A Sedita School #30. Additionally, the Elmwood Village Charter School Days Park and West Buffalo Charter School significantly outperform the traditional public schools in the district, suggesting that alternative educational models may be more effective for this student population.
