Summary

Rochester Prep Charter School 1 is an alternative public charter school serving 1,313 students in grades K-12 in Rochester, New York. The school has faced some challenges in recent years, with academic performance generally below state averages and high rates of chronic absenteeism.

Academically, Rochester Prep Charter School 1 has seen proficiency rates on state assessments ranging from 11-93% in ELA and math, compared to the state averages of 50-60%. The school's Regents exam proficiency rates are also lower than the state, ranging from 4-35% proficient compared to the state's 56-76% proficient. While the school outperforms the Rochester City School District, which has very low proficiency, it lags behind higher-performing suburban schools like Minerva Deland School and Rochester Academy Charter School.

Another area of concern is the school's high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 31-72% in recent years, significantly higher than the state average of 20-25%. The school's per-student spending has increased over the years, but the student-teacher ratio has also risen, from 13.5 to 20 students per teacher. Addressing attendance and resource allocation could be key priorities for improving the school's performance and better supporting its students.

Open Quote Oh my goodness, I cannot say enough good things about this school! This school proves that, all children, with the right environment, great teachers, and dedicated parents, children will, and can learn! My daughter has been a student there, for the last three years, and she has been an honor student each trimester! How great is that! When she was in Catholic school, she never got grades like that!
