Summary

PS 191 Mayflower is an elementary school located in Floral Park, New York, serving grades PK-5 with a total enrollment of 348 students. The school is part of the New York City Geographic District #26, which is ranked 202 out of 874 districts in New York and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

PS 191 Mayflower consistently performs above the state average in English Language Arts (ELA) and Math proficiency across grades 3-5, and its 5th grade Science assessment scores are also strong, outperforming the state average. The school particularly excels in supporting its English Language Learner (ELL) and Special Education student populations, ranking in the top 15% and top 4% of New York elementary schools, respectively, in 2022-2023. Additionally, the school's performance for its Hispanic and Low Socioeconomic Status (SES) student groups is noteworthy, ranking in the top 46% and top 10% of New York elementary schools, respectively, in 2022-2023.

While PS 191 Mayflower's overall performance is strong, it lags behind some of the higher-performing schools in the neighboring Floral Park-Bellerose Union Free School District, such as John Lewis Childs School and Floral Park-Bellerose School, which consistently rank higher in the state. Additionally, the school's ranking for its Asian and Male student populations has declined in recent years, suggesting a need to address potential achievement gaps. However, the significant increase in per-student spending at PS 191 Mayflower, coupled with its relatively low student-teacher ratio, suggests a focus on providing students with a high-quality educational experience, which may be a contributing factor to the school's strong academic performance.

Open Quote The school might be ok but one point I want to make is that the school management keeps school playground closed as soon as school closes and keep it closed during weekends and entire summer. You must call District 26 to protest this policy at

Open Quote I spent my first 6 years of school at P.S.191 (K-5, and it was without a doubt the best school I've ever went to. Compared to M.S. 172, P.S. 191 is absolute heaven for any student. The teachers are nice as a friend and can still keep up a strict and responsible role as a teacher. Close Quote
