Summary

Academy For Conservation And The Environment is a public high school serving grades 9-12 in Brooklyn, New York. With a student population of 438, the school is part of the New York City Geographic District #18, which is ranked 551 out of 874 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

The school faces significant challenges, consistently ranking in the bottom 30% of New York high schools over the past decade. Its performance on state assessments is particularly low for certain student subgroups, with the school ranking in the bottom 5% for Asian students and the bottom 20% for White students in the 2024-2025 school year. The school's 4-year graduation rate has fluctuated between 67.5% and 89.6%, below the state average, and its dropout rate ranges from 4.5% to 8.2%, higher than the state average. Additionally, the school has very high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 20.7% to 52.9% in recent years, significantly higher than the district and state averages.

When compared to other high schools in the same district, such as Brooklyn Bridge Academy and High School For Medical Professions, Academy For Conservation And The Environment generally performs worse on key metrics like graduation rates, test scores, and chronic absenteeism. The school's high percentage of students (around 80%) who qualify for free or reduced-price lunch suggests a high-need student population, which may contribute to the school's challenges. Despite increased per-student spending over the years, the school's academic outcomes have not shown significant improvement, indicating the need for a comprehensive review of its educational programs and support services.

Open Quote If you are looking for a great school, with small classes and teachers that really care about the students ACE as we call it is the one. ACE is a school were students are known by their name and the staff really take the time to find out who these kids are. The Principal can usually be found outside in the morning to ensure the kids get past security and into the building without any problems. The students also have all the activities of a larger school with the inclusion of PSAL sports. Close Quote
