Summary

Dewitt Clinton High School is a public high school in the Bronx, New York, serving 1,152 students in grades 9-12. The school is part of the New York City Geographic District #10, which is ranked 708 out of 874 districts in the state and has a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Dewitt Clinton High School consistently ranks in the bottom half of New York high schools, with a statewide ranking between 768-1040 over the past 8 years. Its performance on Regents exams is also below the district and state averages across most subject areas. The school has a 4-year graduation rate around 84-92%, slightly below the district and state averages, and a higher dropout rate of 4-5%. Dewitt Clinton High School also has a very high chronic absenteeism rate, ranging from 27.9% to 42.7% over the past few years, significantly higher than the district and state averages.

In contrast, the schools in the immediate vicinity of Dewitt Clinton High School, such as High School Of American Studies At Lehman College, Celia Cruz Bronx High School Of Music (The), and Bronx High School Of Science (The), significantly outperform Dewitt Clinton on academic measures. These schools have much higher proficiency rates on Regents exams, higher graduation rates, and lower chronic absenteeism. While Dewitt Clinton High School has a relatively high per-student spending of around $28,000, this does not seem to translate into better academic outcomes, suggesting that simply increasing funding may not be enough to address the school's challenges.

Open Quote I was a graduate of 2019 and I think this school did way better than it did back when I started in 2015-16 school year plus the graduation rate is the highest it’s been being at 78 for the class of 2019 plus the number of incidents at the school was lower than it was when I started there Close Quote

Open Quote I am currently a senior at Dewitt Clinton High School and I can honestly say that this has been the best experience I had. The teachers are great and are always available to help the students. I love the fact that Clinton is a big school because more programs and sports are available for the students. The Macy Program is wonderful and the people involved with it made it possible for me to get the most out of my education. I would not change anything about Clinton. Close Quote

Open Quote I attended Dewitt Clinton high school indeed there has been problems in the school in the last few years prior to 2006 and post, but it was all due to the closure of many small high school. before this clinton was rated the 2nd best school in the bronx 2nd only to bronx science, there was standarized exams to be admited which was ommited .after the closure of these school the just place as much stodents as they could over crawded, no more standardrized exams just what ever they can fix the proffesors care about the students they are great and do their job. what failed was the sistem they over crowded the classroom, ignore proffessors exams and introduced to the school heavy involved gangmenbers which practically destroyed the school am from class 2006 and i attand cornell university and all i have today is thanks to them Close Quote
