The school is part of the Rotterdam-Mohonasen Central School District, which is ranked 598 out of 874 school districts in New York and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Mohonasen Senior High School has seen a decline in its statewide ranking over the past several years, dropping from a high of 303 out of 1,255 New York high schools in 2015-2016 (4-star rating) to 566 out of 1,234 in 2024-2025 (3-star rating). This is in contrast to some nearby high schools, such as Shaker High School, Shenendehowa High School, and Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Senior High School, which have maintained higher rankings and ratings over the same period. The school also struggles with lower performance for certain student subgroups, such as Asian and multi-racial students, as well as special education and low socioeconomic status students.

The school's academic performance is generally below the state and district averages on Regents exams, with lower proficiency rates in subjects like Algebra I, Living Environment, and Earth Science. To address these challenges, the school and district may need to implement targeted interventions, explore best practices from higher-performing schools, and address the potential impact of socioeconomic factors on student success.

Open Quote As so many other parents have stated, I have yet to see a child come from this school with a good education. I have 5 daughters, 3 of which have gone to this school. The school has failed them miserably. The constant excuse the school loves to cling to is it's the childrens's fault. They claim it is not up to them to teach the children, it is up to the children to learn from them. My youngest daughter, 2 weeks out of thyroid cancer surgery, was jumped in the hallway by 2 girls and my daughter got suspended for trying to protect herself. I'm sorry, I just can't find anything good to say. Close Quote

Open Quote The school is no longer about the children learning, it is now about the teachers and administrators collecting a paycheck. The school causes the students so much stress that they end up in counseling. I have yet to see anything good from this school. The education my 3 children that have graduated from this school have is way below standard. Close Quote
