Summary

Johnson Walter Junior High School Academy of Int'l Studies is a public magnet middle school in Las Vegas, Nevada, serving 1,298 students in grades 6-8. This school is part of the Clark County School District, which is the 5th ranked district out of 12 in Nevada and is rated 4 stars out of 5 by SchoolDigger.

Johnson Walter Junior High consistently outperforms the Clark County and Nevada averages in SBAC test scores, particularly in reading, where the school ranks in the top 10 for Hispanic, English Language Learner, and Low Socioeconomic Status students in the state. However, the school's performance in SBAC Mathematics is more average, with proficiency rates around 30-35%, which is still above the district and state averages. Despite having a very high percentage of students from low-income families, the school has a diverse student population and is effectively serving these traditionally underperforming populations.

While the school's academic performance is commendable, it has experienced relatively high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 20.6% to 31.3% over the past few years, which is higher than the district and state averages. This could be an area for improvement. When compared to other nearby middle schools in the same district, Johnson Walter Junior High generally outperforms them academically, particularly in SBAC Reading and Science. However, some nearby schools, such as Rogich Sig Middle School, have even stronger academic performance, suggesting that there may be opportunities to learn from their practices.

Open Quote This is a amazing school that is why students at this is school are 1 0r 2 grades smarter above their grade because they really want to succeed in school. Also they have really kind teachers except for one teacher who got fired becomes he kept putting to much pressure on the students. The only two small problems is that they serve pizza every single day but there is other things to eat. The other problem is that there is crickets in every science class and there was one today in my math class so i think those problems can be fixed really fast. Close Quote

Open Quote I think Walter Johnson Junior High School is a really good. They made AYP last year and every year the students there improve more and more. As a student there I have enjoyed my time there I will miss it once I go on to high school this year. They make everyday fun so that students will enjoy it and at the same time learn. I didn't like to go to school as much but once I came here I don't want to miss a day. This school is an excellent school I would recommend it to anyone that is going on to middle school next year.
