Churchill County High School

Churchill County High School, home of the Greenwave, is the only comprehensive high school in Fallon, Nevada, serving roughly 1,025 students in grades 9–12 in a rural county seat where the entire student body is flagged as economically disadvantaged.

The school's clearest strength is getting students to graduation: 91.1% of students graduated in 2024-25, up 11.3 percentage points over four years and above both the Churchill district (85.9%) and Nevada (85.4%). Classes have also gotten smaller and funding has grown — the student-teacher ratio fell from 31.0 to 21.3 in two years, and per-student spending rose to $11,001. Learning and attendance measures, however, are the weak spots. About two in five students (39.5%) are chronically absent, roughly 14 points above the state rate. On 2025-26 tests, English was close to state levels (49.1% vs. 50.8%), but ACT math (16.4% vs. 22.6%) and end-of-course science (17.9% vs. 26.5%) lagged well behind. That combination — a strong graduation rate alongside weak math and science proficiency — means the diploma rate shouldn't be read as proof that the academic struggles are solved.

There are no other schools within 20 miles, so the practical comparison is the Churchill district and the state. Because this school's figures are nearly identical to the district's, it essentially is the district's high-school statistic, and the district ranks 11th of 12 in Nevada. Statewide, the school sits in the bottom third of high schools, though it has recovered somewhat since a 2023-24 low point. ACT scores swing widely from year to year, so any single year's result should be read with caution.
