Summary

Nevada Connections Academy is a fully online, state-sponsored charter high school serving grades 9–12 with 1,054 students, located at 555 Double Eagle Court in south Reno — the largest school in the State Sponsored Charter Schools district and similar in size to big comprehensive schools like Galena High School and Earl Wooster High School. That district ranks 2nd of 12 statewide, but the ranking is driven largely by very small, selective charters nearby; the school's own standing is 73rd of 105 Nevada high schools (30th percentile, 2 stars) in 2025–26.

Its clearest strength is keeping students engaged. Chronic absenteeism fell from 21.9% (2023–24) to 18.5% (2024–25) to 13.0% (2025–26) — well below the district (17.2%) and about half the state rate (25.5%), and better than every comparable Reno high school except Academy For Career Education (7.4%) and Coral Academy High School (10.5%). Graduation (82.2%) sits near district and state norms, and 10th-grade science proficiency (22.9%) edges out both. It serves a higher-need population (46.87% free/reduced lunch) than Galena, Coral Academy, Academy Of Arts Careers & Technical, or Reno High School. Spending has risen about 50% in four years to $9,798 — still mid-pack — while 31.4 students per teacher is the highest among full-size local high schools.

The defining weakness is college readiness. ACT math proficiency among 11th graders is under 5% in 2025–26, against 21.9% district and 22.6% state, and every nearby school beats it, including the lowest-performing traditional school, Earl Wooster High School (11.1%). ACT English (33.6%) is roughly 15–17 points below district and state. Nearby charter models do far better — Nevada State High School II Meadowwood reports 92.3% ACT English. Statewide rank slipped from the 53rd percentile (2021–22) to 30th (2025–26, 2 stars), though 2025–26 shows the first signs of stabilizing.
