Summary

Route 66 Elementary is a public elementary school located in Moriarty, New Mexico, serving 291 students in grades K-5. The school is part of the Moriarty-Edgewood school district, which is ranked 55 out of 82 districts in the state and has a 2-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Route 66 Elementary faces several challenges, including lower-than-average test scores in both English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics compared to the district and state averages. For example, in the 2024-2025 school year, the school's ELA proficiency rate for all grades was 40.44%, compared to 47.09% for the Moriarty-Edgewood district and 44.19% for the state. The school's performance also varies significantly across different student subgroups, with relatively strong performance for Hispanic students but struggles for White students, English Language Learners, and Special Education students. Additionally, Route 66 Elementary has a very high percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch, with 100% of students qualifying in the 2023-2024 and 2022-2023 school years.

Interestingly, the nearby South Mountain Elementary, which is also part of the Moriarty-Edgewood district, significantly outperforms Route 66 Elementary in both ELA and Mathematics proficiency rates. This suggests that there may be significant differences in the quality of education and resources between schools within the same district. While Route 66 Elementary has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, which could be an asset, the school's performance, particularly for certain student subgroups, suggests that there may be opportunities to improve instructional practices, curriculum, and targeted interventions to better support the diverse needs of the student population.
