Summary

Loving Elementary is a PK–5 school serving 355 students in Loving, New Mexico (ZIP 88256), a small rural town where the school effectively makes up its own standalone Loving Municipal Schools district and sits roughly 10 to 15 miles from every one of its closest comparison schools, all of which belong to the much larger Carlsbad Municipal Schools district.

Language arts is the clear strength: 52.26% of students were proficient in English/language arts in 2025-26, about nine points above the state's 43.34% and essentially tied with Monterrey Elementary (52.63%) and Cottonwood Elementary (51.96%) at the top of the local group. Math is the weak spot at 25.48% — basically the state average of 25.54% but 10 to 14 points behind Cottonwood Elementary (39.58%) and Monterrey Elementary (38.01%). The roughly 27-point gap between the school's reading and math results is the widest among its peers.
