Summary

Hoover Middle is a public middle school in Albuquerque, New Mexico, serving 380 students in grades 6-8. The school consistently outperforms the Albuquerque and New Mexico averages in both English Language Arts and Mathematics, with 55.58% of students proficient or better in ELA and 35.53% in Mathematics, compared to the district and state averages of around 43% and 27%, respectively.

Hoover Middle has maintained a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger for several years, indicating consistent high performance compared to other middle schools in the state. The school also has a relatively low student-teacher ratio, ranging from 12.7 to 14.5 in recent years, which is lower than nearby schools like Desert Ridge Middle and Eisenhower Middle. Additionally, Hoover Middle serves a predominantly economically disadvantaged population, with over 100% of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch in recent years.

Despite the socioeconomic challenges faced by the school community, Hoover Middle has shown strong performance across various student subgroups, including traditionally underserved populations. This suggests a focus on equity and inclusive practices. While the school performs well overall, there are areas where it could potentially improve, such as the performance of Native American students and students with disabilities, which have lower rankings compared to other subgroups.

Open Quote Avoid this school. There is a serious lack of leadership. The Principal cares more about cats than kids! Parents voices are not heard. The faculty turns the other way when there is serious bullying taking place. The chaos prevents learning. Close Quote
