Tucumcari Public Schools in New Mexico serves roughly 911 students across three schools — one elementary, one middle, and one high school — covering grades PK through 12 in a small eastern New Mexico community. Tucumcari Elementary is the largest at 451 students (PK–5), followed by Tucumcari High at 247 (9–12) and Tucumcari Middle at 213 (6–8). The Tucumcari Public Schools district is ranked 59th of 87 statewide — the 32nd percentile with 2 stars — and all three schools share that district rating. Poverty indicators are very high, with free/reduced lunch at 100% at the elementary and high schools and 99.53% at the middle school.

Tucumcari High is the clear standout. Its rank history is much stronger than the other schools — 47th of 132 (64th percentile, 3 stars) in 2025-2026 and 38th of 131 (71st percentile, 4 stars) in 2024-2025 — and science is its biggest strength, with 11th grade proficiency at 51.11% versus the state's 34.02% in 2025-2026 and 66.04% versus 41.69% the year before. High school ELA is slightly below state (33.33% vs. 36.78%), math is reported only as under 20%, and the graduation rate of 76.0% trails the state's 80.6%.

Tucumcari Middle has declined sharply, falling from the 64th percentile and 3 stars in 2023-2024 to the 35th percentile and 2 stars in 2025-2026, with ELA dropping from 51.05% (above state) to 41.58% (below state); 6th grade ELA remains a bright spot above state. Math is the district-wide weakness: middle school math is 14.22% versus the state's 25.54%. Tucumcari Elementary improved in math (15.64% to 23.67%) but fell in science (30.88% to 25%), and its ELA stays close to state levels.
