Summary:

Deming, New Mexico has 10 schools — five elementary, two middle, and three high schools — all part of Deming Public Schools, serving about 4,509 students across kindergarten through 12th grade. The district ranks 72 of 87 in New Mexico, at the 17th percentile with 1 star, and poverty is concentrated: nine of the ten schools have free/reduced lunch rates of 97%–100%, while Bell Elementary is the lone exception at 47.18%. Because results differ so much from campus to campus, individual school data matters more here than the district average.

The clearest bright spot is Early College High School, ranked 43 of 132 (67th percentile, 3 stars), with all-grade math at 37.93% versus the state's 25.54% and SAT math at 37.93% versus 12.55%. Memorial Elementary leads elementaries in English language arts at 46.0%, and Bataan Elementary stands out in math at 32.11%. Bell Elementary posts strong ELA (45.08%) and two recent 4-star years, though it slipped to 40th percentile in 2025–2026. Red Mountain Middle improved to 36th percentile from 15th, helped by 7th-grade math at 33.33%.

Concerns cluster at a few schools. Ruben S. Torres Elementary is the lowest-ranked at 331 of 346 (4th percentile, 0 stars), with ELA at 22.52% and science under 20%. Deming Cesar Chavez has a 62.5% graduation rate, and all tested subjects are under 20%. Deming High graduates 85.2% of students — above district and state — but grade 11 math is only 6.94%. Math is a citywide weakness, notably 8th grade at Red Mountain (9.14%) and grade 11 across the city.
