Summary

Bell Elementary is a PK–5 school in Deming, New Mexico, serving 301 students at 1000 East Maple — the smallest of five nearby elementary campuses in Deming Public Schools, a district ranked 72nd of 87 in the state. In 2025-2026, Bell ranked 208th of 346 New Mexico elementary schools (40th percentile, 2 stars).

That ranking needs context. A decade ago Bell sat in the bottom 5% of state elementary schools. It climbed steadily to the 65th–73rd percentile in 2022-23 through 2024-25, earning 4-star ratings two years running while its own district stayed at 1 star. The 2025-2026 result gives back roughly 30 percentile points and 2 stars in a single year, and the cause is concentrated in mathematics: Bell's math proficiency fell to 22.13%, essentially matching the district (22.21%) and below the state (25.54%). Reading is a different story — 45.08% in English language arts, ahead of the state and about 11 points above the district. Bell and Memorial Elementary are the only nearby campuses clearing the state ELA mark; Chaparral Elementary, Bataan Elementary, and Ruben S. Torres Elementary all fall short.
