Summary:
Zip code 08817 has eight schools serving pre-K through grade 12: five K–5 elementary schools, an early learning center, a middle school and a high school. In 2025–2026, the five tested elementary schools averaged 55% in ELA, 54% in math and 31% in grade 5 science, compared with state averages of 49%, 47% and 27%. Those area averages were above the state in all three subjects, but the most important finding is how much results varied from one elementary school to another.
Lincoln Elementary School had the strongest overall elementary profile: it led the five schools in ELA in grades 3–5, grade 5 math and grade 5 science. Grade 5 ELA ranged from 73% at Lincoln to 37% at Lindeneau Elementary School, a 36-point spread; grade 5 math ranged from 67% to 28%, a 39-point spread. Lindeneau’s grade 3 results were much stronger than its older-grade results. Washington Elementary School led grade 4 math at 64%, 17 points above the state. The secondary schools also have mixed results: Thomas Jefferson Middle School was below the state in grade-level math across grades 6–8 but above it in Algebra I and Geometry; at Edison High School, Algebra I and Geometry were well below state results, while grade 9 ELA, grade 11 science and Algebra II were above.
Elementary results were mostly steady on average: ELA rose by 1 point from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, math was nearly unchanged at 54.2% and 54.3%, and grade 5 science fell by 3 points. Individual schools differed: Lindeneau’s ELA and math averages improved, while its science result declined. SchoolDigger’s statewide percentile ranking for Lincoln was 79 in 2025–2026, the highest among these elementary schools; it was 78 in 2023–2024 and 82 in between. As context, 2024–2025 free/reduced lunch eligible shares ranged from 23% at Lincoln to 65% at Lindeneau, while student-teacher ratios ranged from 14.7 at Lincoln to 10.9 at Lindeneau—measures that do not by themselves explain the schools’ different results.
