Academy For Allied Health Sciences is a 9–12 school in Scotch Plains, in Union County, with 308 students and part of the Union County Vocational-Technical School District. Its results are generally far above New Jersey’s, but vary by subject. The most important finding for families is that strong overall results conceal a clear weakness in Algebra II compared with the district and nearby vocational-school peers.

The school’s strongest results are in English Language Arts, Algebra I, and science. In 2025–2026, 100% of its ninth graders were proficient in English Language Arts, compared with 97% districtwide and 51% statewide; that was also near the top of nearby same-district schools. Algebra I proficiency was 94%, above the district’s 87% and the nearby-school average of 90%. In grade 11 science, 83% were proficient, compared with 77% for the district and a nearby-school average of 78%. Some results have slipped even as the school remains highly rated. End-of-course Algebra II proficiency fell 30 percentage points from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026, while Geometry end-of-course proficiency dropped 30 points from 2022–2023. SchoolDigger ranks the school 22nd of 434 schools, at the 95th percentile with five stars in 2025–2026, down from sixth and the 99th percentile the year before. In 2024–2025, the graduation rate was 100%, compared with 99% for the district and 89% statewide; chronic absenteeism was 7%, below the state’s 14%. The student-teacher ratio was 20.2, and 10% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible in 2024–2025. These figures add context, but do not explain the differences in test results.
