Summary

Thomas W. Wallace Junior Middle School is a 695-student school serving grades 6–8 in Vineland, New Jersey. Its clearest academic challenge is English Language Arts (ELA): in 2025–2026, proficiency was 20% in grade 6, 22% in grade 7 and 19% in grade 8—the lowest results among nearby schools offering those grades, and well below state results.

Algebra I is a relative bright spot compared with the state and district: 46% of students met the benchmark, versus 40% statewide and 18% in the Vineland Public School District. However, all nine nearby schools with reported Algebra I results scored higher. ELA is weaker by every comparison: Wallace trailed the state by 31–34 percentage points and the district by 8–16 points across grades 6–8; it also fell below the lowest nearby result in each grade. Math results were 12% in grade 6, 8% in grade 7 and 9% in grade 8; grade 8 was close to the district’s 9%, while science proficiency was 6%, below the district’s 9% and state’s 19%.

Results have improved in ELA and science, but math has not kept pace with state gains. The three-grade ELA average rose from 12% in 2022–2023 to 21% in 2025–2026, while grade 8 science rose from 1% to 6%; math’s average increased from 6% to 10%, less than the state’s increase. Chronic absenteeism fell from 62% in 2020–2021 to 27% in 2024–2025, but remained above the state’s 14%. In 2024–2025, 75% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible, the second-highest rate among ten nearby schools with that measure.
