Summary

Glen Meadow Middle School is a public middle school located in Vernon, New Jersey, serving around 640 students in grades 6-8. It is part of the Vernon Township School District, which is ranked 270 out of 609 school districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

While Glen Meadow Middle School's performance on NJSLA (New Jersey Student Learning Assessment) tests is generally below the state average, with proficiency rates ranging from around 30-60% in English Language Arts and 0-45% in Mathematics, the school faces some unique challenges. Its chronic absenteeism rates have been relatively high, ranging from 14.3% to 20% over the past few years, which is higher than the state average. Additionally, the school's student-teacher ratio, ranging from 9.7 to 12.6, is generally higher than nearby schools like Pearl R. Miller Middle School, Sparta Middle School, and Hardyston Township Middle School, which have outperformed Glen Meadow Middle School on NJSLA tests.

Despite these challenges, Glen Meadow Middle School has a relatively low percentage of students from low socioeconomic backgrounds, with free and reduced-price lunch recipients ranging from 16-21% over the past few years. This is lower than some nearby schools, such as Walter T. Bergen Middle School and Sussex Middle School, which have higher percentages of students from low-income families. The school's performance data also reveals some disparities in subgroup performance, with female students and Hispanic students tending to perform better than their male and white counterparts, respectively. These insights suggest that Glen Meadow Middle School may benefit from a closer examination of its attendance policies, instructional practices, and support systems for students to address these areas of concern and improve overall academic achievement.

Open Quote AVOID THIS SCHOOL AT ALL COST!

Our major problem with this school has been incessant bullying of both of our children, which school staff did not act to resolve (despite repeated requests). Other problems include overcrowded classes (despite a school reorganization which was supposed to bring down class sizes), little emphasis on achievement, Honors/GATE or college readiness, and a general negative atmosphere.

We transferred our children to private school and have been very happy! Highly recommend Sparta Country Day, the Charter School, or Pope John as an alternative. Close Quote
