Summary

Anthony V. Ceres Elementary School is a public elementary school serving 553 students in grades K-5 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, which is part of the Perth Amboy Public School District. Despite its high-poverty student population, the school has consistently underperformed compared to other schools in the district and state.

Over the past 10 years, Anthony V. Ceres Elementary has ranked in the bottom 15-20% of New Jersey elementary schools, maintaining a 1-star rating from SchoolDigger. The school's performance is particularly low for certain student subgroups, such as Hispanic students, English Language Learners, Special Education students, and those from low-socioeconomic backgrounds. Additionally, the school has struggled with high chronic absenteeism rates, ranging from 14.9% to 20.2% over the past few years.

When compared to other elementary schools in the Perth Amboy district, such as James J. Flynn Elementary and Edward J. Patten Elementary, Anthony V. Ceres Elementary consistently underperforms, with lower proficiency rates and overall rankings. Despite the high-poverty student population, the school's per-student spending is not significantly lower than other local schools, suggesting that funding and resources may not be the primary factors contributing to the school's challenges.

Open Quote Teachers more concerned with their contract than their students, reviewing and correcting NJASK questions to show improvement, G&T has more students who have been left back in previous years than actually gifted students and a principal who thinks her school is so great people are trying to sneak in (doesn't realize they are trying to get closer to the babysitte's house). Total lack of dedication vice principal campaigning for city council on the school yard and teachers conducting superintendent attack plans during school hours. Sad. Close Quote
