Summary

Hackensack High School in Hackensack, NJ, serves grades 9–12 and enrolls 1,813 students. In 2025–2026, its results were below the state in most current subject-and-grade comparisons, and it ranked below nearby schools on most comparable tests. For example, 9th-grade ELA proficiency was 36%, while 11th-grade science proficiency was 18%, below the state’s 29%. The most important finding is that performance challenges span several grades and subjects, rather than being limited to one test.

The clearest bright spot is 9th-grade Geometry: 50% proficiency matched the state and district, though six nearby schools scored higher and one scored lower. Elsewhere, results were weaker. Algebra I End of Course proficiency was 11%, compared with 40% statewide and 16% in the Hackensack School District; the school was also below all seven nearby schools with results (26.9%–89.3%). In 9th-grade ELA, Hackensack’s 36% was below the state’s 51% and the eight nearby results (42.1%–98.3%). All six nearby schools reporting 11th-grade NJGPA results exceeded Hackensack’s 63% in ELA and 47% in math.

Results have moved in different directions: 9th-grade Geometry rose from 4% in 2022–2023 to 50% in 2025–2026, while 9th-grade ELA fell from 47% to 36%; Algebra I End of Course rose from 7% to 11%, but its state gap widened to 29 points. SchoolDigger ranked Hackensack 333rd of 434 schools, at the 23rd percentile and one star, in 2025–2026; nearby ranked schools ranged from the 44th to the 99th percentile. The student-teacher ratio was 13.2 in 2024–2025, higher than at seven of eight nearby comprehensive high schools. Also in 2024–2025, 64% of students were free/reduced lunch eligible—the highest share among nearby schools reporting the same measure. SchoolDigger’s statewide ranking for Asian students was at the 58th percentile, compared with the school’s overall 23rd percentile; its ranking for White students fell from the 45th percentile in 2023–2024 to the 16th in 2025–2026.

Some people have a negative perception of Hachensack High School(HHS), but my opinion is that they are certainly doing something well. If you look at the quality of academic performance,scores prove proficiency. Hackensack teachers are usually experienced with a Master degree in Teaching. In addition, HHS sets the bar for the institution of education promoting freedom and equality to all walks of life. Close Quote
