Summary:
Montville Township School District serves 3,500 students in seven schools: five elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. In 2025–2026, the elementary schools’ averages were 76% in ELA, 78% in math and 56% in grade-5 science, compared with state averages of 49%, 47% and 27%. But average results varied by as much as 23 percentage points in ELA and 25 points in math from one elementary school to another. The key takeaway is that strong results compared with the state coexist with substantial differences between schools.
Hilldale School was the clearest elementary standout, leading the group with 92% in ELA and 90% in math across grades 3–5, plus 74% in grade-5 science. Elementary trends were mixed from 2024–2025 to 2025–2026: the five-school ELA average fell 4 percentage points, math rose 1 point and grade-5 science fell 2 points. High-school changes also varied: 11th-grade science declined 15 points to 36%, while 9th-grade ELA fell 8 points to 68%.
