Summary

Nashua High School South is a large public high school in Nashua, New Hampshire, serving grades 9–12 and 1,686 students in the diverse Nashua area. Part of the Nashua School District, the school ranks 46th of 89 New Hampshire high schools for 2025–2026, placing it near the statewide middle. Its size provides a broad high-school experience, while its student-teacher ratio of 12.7:1 is reasonably favorable for a school of more than 1,600 students.

Reading is the school’s clearest academic strength. Sixty percent of students were proficient in reading, compared with 43% across the district and 55% statewide. South also outperformed nearby Nashua High School North by 7 percentage points in reading and 11 points in math. However, math and science need attention: proficiency was 29% in math and 25% in science, compared with 44% and 38% statewide. Math has stayed around 27%–33% for four years, while science fell notably from 37% the prior year. South’s reading rate also declined from 69% to 60%, so maintaining that strength will be important.

Graduation outcomes are another concern. The 2024–2025 graduation rate was 82.5%, below New Hampshire’s 87.0% and well below nearby Pelham High School, Merrimack High School, and Windham High School. It was nearly identical to North’s 82.7%, despite South’s stronger reading and math results. The 3.0% dropout rate is manageable but above the state average. Overall, South offers a notable literacy advantage and stronger results than North in two major subjects, but families should ask about math and science support, graduation interventions, and services for student groups whose outcomes have been less consistent.
