Monroe Consolidated School

Monroe Consolidated School is a small public school in the rural community of Monroe, New Hampshire, serving 88 students in pre-kindergarten through eighth grade through the Monroe School District. Its small enrollment and broad grade span create a close-knit setting, with a 6.9-to-1 student-teacher ratio that may allow for individualized attention. The school’s current ranking is 138th out of 230 New Hampshire schools, placing it in the 40th percentile with a two-star rating, while the district ranks in the 33rd percentile.

Academic results are mixed, and the school’s small size means percentages can change noticeably from one year to the next. Mathematics is the clearest relative strength: 43% of students were proficient in 2025–26, nearly matching the state average of 44%. Fifth-grade math was especially encouraging, with 56% proficiency compared with 43% statewide. Reading was somewhat weaker at 50%, below the state’s 55%, and fifth-grade reading was a particular concern at 44% versus 58% statewide. Science is the most consistent challenge, with 26% proficiency compared with 38% statewide. Monroe has nevertheless improved substantially over the long term, rising from the bottom few percentiles in the early 2010s.

Compared with nearby schools, Monroe generally trails the highly ranked Lafayette Regional School and Bethlehem Elementary School, which rank in the 92nd and 88th percentiles, respectively. It also ranks below Lisbon Regional School (Elem), but performs better overall than Mildred C. Lakeway School. Monroe’s results are not uniformly low: its fifth-grade math performance is competitive with several nearby schools, while improving reading and science—especially at fifth grade—would be important priorities.
