Summary

Merrimack High School is a public school serving grades 9–12 in the town of Merrimack, southern New Hampshire, with about 1,057 students as part of the Merrimack School District. Overall, it is an above-average New Hampshire high school, ranking 32nd out of 89 schools statewide and earning a 3-star rating. Its strongest feature is student persistence: the 2024–2025 graduation rate was 91.8%, above the state’s 87.0%, while the dropout rate was just 0.7%.

Academic results are uneven by subject. Reading is a clear strength, with 66% of students proficient compared with 55% statewide. Mathematics is the school’s biggest challenge: only 25% were proficient, compared with 44% statewide and 47% across the district. Science proficiency was 38%, about equal to the state average, but it declined from 59% two years earlier. This pattern is also visible in SAT results, where reading proficiency was 66% but math proficiency was 25%. The school’s recent ranking decline—from 22nd in 2023–2024 to 32nd currently—appears more connected to weaker math and science performance than to graduation outcomes.

Compared with nearby schools, Merrimack offers stronger graduation and dropout outcomes than Nashua High School South and Alvirne High School, and its graduation rate is competitive with higher-ranked Souhegan Coop High School. However, it trails Bedford High School, Souhegan, and Londonderry Senior High School in several academic measures, especially mathematics. Parents may view Merrimack as a stable, comprehensive school with strong completion rates and reading performance, while recognizing that improving math instruction, science consistency, and support for students receiving special education services are important priorities.
