Marlborough Elementary School is a small public school in the rural community of Marlborough, New Hampshire, serving 164 students in prekindergarten through eighth grade as part of the Marlborough School District. Its PK–8 structure is broader than that of many nearby elementary schools, so overall results include middle-grade students and should be compared carefully.

The school’s latest assessment results are below state averages in all three tested subjects: 24% of students were proficient in math, 38% in reading, and 11% in science, compared with 44%, 55%, and 38% statewide. Science is the clearest concern, falling from 33% proficiency in 2022–23 to 11% in 2025–26. Math has also weakened after a temporary improvement, while reading is the relative strength. Third-grade reading was encouraging at 54%, slightly above the state rate, but reading proficiency dropped to 18% in sixth grade. Eighth-grade results were especially low in math and science, both at 11%. The school ranks near the bottom statewide, at about the 11th percentile, while the district is near the 5th percentile.

Compared with nearby schools, Marlborough generally reports lower results. For example, Troy Elementary School, which has a similar economic profile, reported 41% math, 46% reading, and 19% science proficiency. Results were also higher at Fuller Elementary School—52% math, 62% reading, and 57% science—and Wheelock Elementary School. Marlborough’s student-teacher ratio of 11.2 is moderate and does not appear to explain the achievement gap by itself. Parents may want to ask about science instruction, math support, middle-grade curriculum continuity, and how the school builds on its stronger early-reading performance.
