Hanover High School

Hanover High School is a public school serving 674 students in grades 9–12 in Hanover, New Hampshire, a community within the highly rated Dresden School District. The school ranks third among 89 New Hampshire high schools for 2025–2026 and has maintained a top-three statewide position for several years, placing it among the state’s most consistently high-performing schools.

Academically, Hanover stands out most in reading, where 93% of students reached proficiency, compared with 74% at nearby Lebanon High School and 55% statewide. Mathematics proficiency was 75%, ahead of Lebanon’s 62% and the state’s 44%, while science proficiency was 56%, modestly above Lebanon’s 52% and the statewide rate of 38%. Eleventh-grade SAT results were similarly strong: 75% proficiency in mathematics and 93% in reading. The school’s 98.1% graduation rate also exceeded Lebanon’s 89.3%, Mascoma Valley Regional High School’s 93.2%, and the state rate of 87%.

For families, Hanover combines strong achievement with reliable student completion outcomes. Its 2024–2025 dropout rate was just 0.6%, and its student-teacher ratio was 10.6 to 1. Results for several student groups, including students receiving special education services, also ranked near the top statewide, suggesting that success extends beyond overall school averages. The main points to watch are recent declines in mathematics, from 82% to 75%, and especially science, from 76% to 56%; science performance was also below the district’s 64%. Even so, Hanover remains substantially stronger overall than nearby schools. Ledyard Charter School is much smaller, with 49 students, making direct comparisons less meaningful.
