South Hampton School District

The South Hampton School District has one school, South Hampton Barnard School, serving students from kindergarten through 8th grade in South Hampton, New Hampshire. The school enrolls about 81 students and has a very low student-teacher ratio of 8.1 to 1, which may support small classes and individualized attention. Because it is the district’s only school, there are no other schools within the district for direct comparison.

South Hampton Barnard School performs well above New Hampshire averages in all three reported subjects. In 2025–2026, 80% of students were proficient in mathematics, compared with 44% statewide; 70% were proficient in reading, compared with 55%; and 63% were proficient in science, compared with 38%. Mathematics is the school’s clearest strength, improving 17 percentage points from the prior year. Reading and science declined modestly schoolwide in the latest year, even though both remain above state levels. The school’s ranking also fell from the 97th percentile three years ago to the 76th percentile most recently, but it remains in the upper tier statewide. Since enrollment is small, results can shift noticeably from year to year based on the performance of a few students. Overall, the school offers strong academics in a small K–8 setting, with early-grade literacy and recent ranking trends worth monitoring.
