The Mascoma Valley Regional School District has two elementary schools serving students from Pre-K through Grade 4: Canaan Elementary School and Enfield Village School. Canaan’s higher free/reduced-price lunch participation rate—27.12% compared with Enfield’s 12.82%—indicates different levels of economic need, while the modest staffing difference alone does not explain the academic gap. Parents comparing the schools should view Enfield as the stronger academic performer and Canaan as a school showing some improvement but with important literacy and upper-elementary mathematics needs.
