Lyme School District

Lyme School District is a small, single-school district in Lyme, New Hampshire, serving 187 students from kindergarten through 8th grade at Lyme Elementary School. The school combines elementary and middle-grade education in one campus and has a student-teacher ratio of 13.3 to 1. With no other schools in the district, families cannot compare schools locally, but the school’s results can be compared with statewide performance and its own results over time.

Lyme Elementary School is a top-performing school statewide. In 2025–26, 89% of students were proficient in math, compared with 44% statewide; 85% were proficient in reading, compared with 55%; and 78% were proficient in science, compared with 38%. Particularly strong results included 100% proficiency in fourth-grade math and eighth-grade reading, along with 93% in eighth-grade math and 89% in eighth-grade science. The school ranked ninth out of 230 schools in its reported ranking and has maintained a five-star rating, while the Lyme School District ranked fifth out of 166 New Hampshire districts.

Recent trends are also encouraging. Math proficiency increased from 80% to 89% in one year, while science rose substantially from 63% to 78%. Reading remained essentially stable, changing from 86% to 85%. The main areas to watch are fifth-grade reading, at 71%, and fifth-grade science, at 59%, although both still exceeded statewide results. Math performance also dipped in the middle grades before rebounding strongly in eighth grade. Because the school is small, results in individual grades can shift noticeably when only a few students move above or below the proficiency standard. Overall, the data show a consistently strong K–8 school with especially impressive mathematics, upper-grade, and recent science performance.
