Summary:

Haverhill Cooperative School District is a small New Hampshire district serving about 626 students from pre-kindergarten through grade 12 in three schools: Woodsville Elementary School, Haverhill Cooperative Middle School, and Woodsville High School, serving the Woodsville and Haverhill area.

Woodsville Elementary School is the strongest academic performer in the district. In 2025–2026, 50% of students were proficient in mathematics and 58% in reading, both slightly above statewide results. The school also showed the district’s clearest recent improvement, with reading proficiency increasing 17 percentage points and mathematics rising 6 points. Woodsville High School stands out for student completion: its 2024–2025 graduation rate was 98.4%, compared with 87% statewide, and its reported dropout rate was 0%. Academic results at the high school are more mixed, however, with reading and science below state averages and notable declines from the previous year.

Haverhill Cooperative Middle School is the district’s main area of concern. Current proficiency was 13% in mathematics, 34% in reading, and 20% in science, all well below state averages. Reading drops particularly sharply from grades 4 and 5 to grade 6, where proficiency was 18%, suggesting that the transition into middle school deserves close attention. Parents may want to ask about mathematics support, reading interventions, science instruction, and how students are supported between elementary and middle school. Overall, the district offers strong elementary results and excellent high school graduation outcomes, but middle school achievement and high school academic readiness remain important priorities.
