Lempster School District

Lempster School District serves the Lempster area through one small school, Lempster Community School, which provides Pre-K through Grade 8 education for 132 students.

Because there is only one school in the district, families do not have multiple local schools to compare, and the school’s results represent the district as a whole. The school has a 15:1 student-teacher ratio and serves a community in which about 43% of students qualified for free or reduced-price lunch in 2024–2025. Overall test results are below New Hampshire averages: 29% of students were proficient in math, compared with 44% statewide; 45% were proficient in reading, compared with 55%; and 33% were proficient in science, compared with 38%. Reading is the strongest subject overall, while math is the greatest broad academic challenge.

Performance varies considerably by grade. Grade 8 is the clearest strength, with results above the state in math, reading, and science; eighth-grade reading was especially strong at 82%, compared with 51% statewide. In contrast, Grade 5 needs the most attention, particularly in science, where 17% of students were proficient compared with 38% statewide, and in math, where proficiency was 25%. Fourth-grade reading and math were also below state results. Recent overall trends are mixed: math was essentially stable, while reading declined four points and science declined eight points from the prior year. The school’s ranking also fell from the 34th percentile in 2024–2025 to the 13th percentile in 2025–2026. Parents may want to ask about early-grade interventions, science and math support, class sizes, and how the practices associated with strong Grade 8 outcomes are being introduced in younger grades.
