Summary:

Colebrook School District is a small rural New Hampshire district serving about 288 students across two campuses: Colebrook Academy and Elementary School (E), serving pre-K through grade 8, and Colebrook Academy and Elementary School (H), serving grades 9–12.

The high school is the district’s strongest overall performer. It ranks 23rd among 86 New Hampshire high schools, placing it near the 73rd percentile, and its ranking improved substantially over the past two years. It also reports a 92.3% graduation rate and a 0% dropout rate, both better than state averages. The high school’s 2024–2025 science results were especially impressive, with 74% of students proficient compared with 38% statewide. Reading was also above the state average that year. However, the latest reading results, including a 37% SAT reading proficiency rate, were considerably below statewide results, so families may want to monitor whether this represents a temporary change or a longer-term concern.

The elementary and middle-level campus has its clearest strength in reading. Overall reading proficiency was 55%, matching the state, with particularly strong results in grades 5 and 6. Mathematics is the largest academic challenge: only 22% of students were proficient overall, and every tested grade fell below the statewide rate. Science was also below the state, especially in grade 5. Both schools have low student-teacher ratios—9.1:1 at the elementary/middle campus and 8.3:1 at the high school—which may support individual attention. Reported free- or reduced-price lunch participation is higher in the younger grades, suggesting families may also wish to ask about academic support and available student services.
