Strong Foundations Charter School

The Strong Foundations Charter School is the only school in the Strong Foundations Charter School organization. Located in Pembroke, New Hampshire, it serves approximately 337 students in grades K–8. Although classified as an elementary school, it includes middle-school grades, making its results relevant to families with children throughout elementary and early middle school. The reported student–teacher ratio is 9.9:1, and about 23% of students receive free or reduced-price lunch.

Academic results are mixed, with clear strengths and weaknesses. Science is the strongest overall subject: 49% of students were proficient in 2025–2026, compared with 38% statewide. Reading proficiency was 47%, eight points below the state, while mathematics was 33%, eleven points below the state. Grade 5 was the standout, with 54% proficiency in math, 76% in reading, and 62% in science—above statewide results in all three subjects. Grade 8 reading was also slightly above the state. In contrast, Grade 6 was a major concern, with only 17% proficiency in math and 31% in reading. Grade 3 math was also particularly weak at 25%.

Recent results show encouraging improvement in reading and science. Reading increased from 40% to 47% year over year, while science rose substantially from 31% to 49%; mathematics remained unchanged at 33%. The school’s ranking improved from the 29th percentile in 2024–2025 to the 35th percentile in 2025–2026, although it remains below the statewide midpoint. Parents may want to look closely at the school’s plans for math instruction, especially in Grades 3 and 6, as well as support for the transition into middle grades. At the same time, the strong Grade 5 and science results suggest that effective teaching practices may already exist within the school and could potentially be extended to other grades.
