Open Quote Hello, I am an alumnus of the Greensboro Montessori School and was part of the 2015-16 class. I'm currently attending the Early College at Guilford and I cannot thank this school enough for all it has given me--I would rate this school 10/5 stars if I could. I began my journey here at this school in Primary when I was 5 years old, and each year has been eye-opening and engaging from start to finish. In terms of academics, the GMS has prepared me in every way possible for my high school experience despite their lack of focus on end-of-year tests. I took classes on every core subject: Math (I reached math III), Science, Humanities (consisting of English, Geography, and History), Spanish, Visual Arts and Performance and Production (Music & Theater). The one EOC I did take I got a 5 out of 5 on. In the classroom, the Montessori uses hands-on teaching methods and allows students to work at their own pace. For example in 1st grade, I had begun my work on "hands-on" algebra while the other students learned multiplication and division. Furthermore, each grade at the Montessori school works hand in hand, using the curriculum as a foundation to then build on for each subject and concept. From pre-K to middle school, I've learned a myriad of life skills from cooking, to raising a child, to owning a business, to creating a movie, to leading a team, to creating loving relationships with both students and teachers, and have had opportunities to visit, Williamsburg Virginia, Washington D.C., Arizona, the United Nations in New York, and even Costa Rica. Each of these experiences has taught me life skills that I will treasure forever. Additionally, I was able to play every sport offered at the GMS--soccer, football, volleyball, basketball, and cross country--in a competitive setting and have learned skills as a leader and a team member. Throughout my years at this school, I've learned that while academics are important (and with the school I am at now, they certainly are), they are just the surface of what one needs to know in life. If you are looking to send your child to this school, they will love it from start to finish, I can guarantee it however, there will be some bumpy roads, but hey, that's life. Often times I come back to visit the school and when I think about the memories I've created, all I want to do is return, for Montessori is my second home. Close Quote
