As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote November 17, 2021
There is a strong concern related to students' safety within East Cary Middle School. There has been an increasing in bullying and physical fighting on school property. Instead of being completely transparent with the parents, each case is hidden from the parents. We are not asking for details of who the kids are but noticed it a tread within a certain groups of kids. very concerning about how they response of ISS or suspense and no mediation or parents involvement. Open Quote Lots of room for improvement. Seems to be going downhill fast. Enrollment is low and there seems to be a huge gap in achievement between white students and students of color. Close Quote

Open Quote Disappointed that ECMS has such ineffective leadership, it's almost invisible. No sign of principal during morning carpool and if it's an after school event, you may find her standing at the entry way texting on her phone. Her new hires are hit or miss (a very clear "miss" in the music program, sadly). Frustrated at lack of response from email queries (I get a response half of the time). Equally frustrated when having to deal with some teachers that manipulate their authority around students - creating an environment of "fear". Is it safe to ask a question, approach a teacher for help? Depends on how the teacher feels that day. Good day or bad...there should always be consistency in what a student can expect FROM the teacher. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
