Within Rowan-Salisbury Schools, West Rowan falls in the middle-lower tier — ahead of Southeast Middle and North Rowan Middle, but behind China Grove Middle and Erwin Middle. Tyro Middle, in Davidson County Schools, has an almost identical poverty rate (98.48%) yet ranks at the 35th percentile statewide — double West Rowan's standing. South Davie Middle in Davie County Schools also outranks West Rowan while serving a majority-low-income population. Meanwhile, Selma Burke Middle, only about 15 miles away in the Mooresville Graded School District and serving a far wealthier population, ranks at the 72nd percentile.
