South Newton Elementary faces several challenges, including consistently low student performance, with the school ranking in the bottom half of North Carolina elementary schools over the past 10 years. The school's performance on state assessments is generally below the district and state averages, particularly for certain student subgroups. For example, in 2024-2025, the percentage of students proficient or better in 3rd grade math was 64.9% at South Newton Elementary, compared to 80.4% for the district and 64.1% for the state. Open Quote South newton is an absolute pleasure! The teachers are more than spectacular, so caring and helpful. They make sure the students learn they need too and make sure they have fun doing so. I really love the "7 habits" from kinder they teach them to be kind amd loving as well as educated. The anti bully policies are a bonus. Close Quote
