Summary

Murrayville Elementary is a public elementary school in Wilmington, North Carolina, serving 576 students in grades PK-5. The school is part of the New Hanover County Schools district, which is ranked 78 out of 242 districts in the state and has a 3-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Murrayville Elementary has shown strong performance, particularly in mathematics, with 3rd-5th grade proficiency rates consistently above the state and district averages. The school's 5th-grade science proficiency has also been impressive, exceeding both the district and state averages. Notably, Murrayville's African American, Hispanic, and English Language Learner (ELL) students have performed well, ranking in the top 5% to 25% of North Carolina elementary schools for these subgroups. However, the school's Gifted and Talented students have struggled, ranking in the bottom 25% of the state.

Despite having an exceptionally high percentage of students (over 99%) qualifying for free or reduced-price lunch, indicating a high-poverty student population, Murrayville's low-income students have performed well, ranking in the top 5% of the state in recent years. This suggests the school is effectively serving its students and providing a quality education. In contrast, nearby schools in the New Hanover County district show a wide range of performance, with some, like Ogden Elementary and Dr. Hubert Eaton Senior Elementary, ranking among the top schools in the state, while others, like A.H. Snipes Academy of Arts/Design and R. Freeman School of Engineering, struggle to meet state averages.

Open Quote I have 2 children at Murrayville and I could not be happier with this school. ALL the teachers, staff and office personnel are wonderful. We have been apart of the Murrayville family for 5 years and would not change a thing. So don't let the score or ranking of this school fool you. It is a very good school with excellent teachers!
