Summary

Endhaven Elementary is a PK–5 public school in Charlotte, NC, serving 790 students within the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools district, situated in a south Charlotte area surrounded by some of the district's highest-performing elementary schools. Endhaven Elementary currently ranks 184th out of 1,492 North Carolina elementary schools—an 88th-percentile, 4-star result—and its students comfortably beat district and state averages in reading, math, and science. Fifth-grade science proficiency, for example, is 87.6%, compared to 70.9% for the district and 67.7% statewide. At the same time, the immediate neighborhood is exceptionally strong: Polo Ridge Elementary and Hawk Ridge Elementary rank in the mid-to-high 90th percentile, making Endhaven a very good school in a cluster of elite ones.

What truly sets Endhaven apart is how well its historically underserved students perform. With a free/reduced lunch rate of 36.1%—roughly double the 12.8%–26.2% range of nearby top schools—Endhaven posts state-leading results for economically disadvantaged students (85th percentile), English learners (86th), special education students (92nd), and African American students (91st). The school has also improved sharply recently, jumping from the 77th to the 88th percentile in a single year and reaching its best statewide ranking in at least a decade. Chronic absenteeism has fallen from a post-pandemic 27% to 15.1%, and reading proficiency climbs steadily by grade level, from 67.2% in 3rd grade to 77.0% in 5th grade.

The main opportunity area is attendance. Endhaven's 15.1% chronic absenteeism rate is well below the CMS district rate of 26.8%, but it trails its best local peers—Polo Ridge, Hawk Ridge, and Knights View Elementary all sit near 7%. If attendance continues to close that gap, Endhaven's academics could climb even higher. For families comparing schools in this part of Charlotte, Endhaven offers a strong combination: solid absolute performance, rapid recent gains, and clear evidence of effective support for students from all backgrounds, all while serving a more economically diverse student body than most of its celebrated neighbors.
