The school is part of the Chatham County Schools district, which is ranked 72 out of 242 districts in North Carolina and has a 4-star rating from SchoolDigger.

Margaret B. Pollard Middle consistently ranks among the top 100 middle schools in North Carolina, with a current ranking of 94 out of 773 schools for the 2024-2025 school year. The school's performance on state assessments (EOG) is significantly higher than the Chatham County Schools and North Carolina state averages across all grade levels and subject areas. For example, in 2024-2025, the school's 6th-grade Mathematics proficiency rate was 78.5%, compared to 64.7% for Chatham County and 57.2% for the state. The school performs exceptionally well for African American and Multi-racial students, ranking in the top 60 and top 52 middle schools in North Carolina, respectively, for these subgroups.

Despite having lower per-student spending compared to the nearby Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools district, Margaret B. Pollard Middle is able to achieve strong academic outcomes, suggesting the school is utilizing its resources efficiently. However, the school's relatively lower performance for Hispanic and English Language Learner (ELL) students compared to other subgroups and the state average highlights an area for improvement and potential targeted interventions. The increasing percentage of free and reduced-lunch recipients at the school may indicate a need for additional support and resources to address the needs of the growing population of economically disadvantaged students.

Open Quote The teachers are nice and all, but the overall quality of education in this school is terrible. There are no real ' electives ', which are classes which you pick. Instead you cycle out to a different class for 4th Block / Period every 6 weeks. This would be good, if the classes weren't so bad. There is a class ( Chorus ) where you supposedly learn about music, but in my time as a 7th grader all I learned about was how to memorize some silly facts about psychedelic music and old theater performances. Then there are some other useless ones. There is one that is somewhat good, which is media, but the only part that actually will help you out in life is what they do on Fridays ( so only 6 days out of the whole year). This class teaches you about careers. This school fails to find many options for advanced placement kids such as myself. I just finished 7th grade, and was in the highest level possible for math, but I found that level still pretty simple. There were no other options for me, like there would be in a better school. Also, Social Studies and Science are only shown half the year, so all the information is quite watered down and the classes are rushed. You can tell how bad this education is by comparing the average EOG scores to those of top 25 schools in NC. There is a clear distinction. It makes sense why the education is so bad though, because considering how it is in Chatham County, many of the children will end up in agriculture, but since ' no child left behind ', this really leaves the more advanced children having to take it slow.
