As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote Unfortunately, my daughter and son lost an entire year of education when they attended Northside. My son was in Kindergarten and advanced in reading, but as he entered 1st grade he was behind. Thankfully, his new school has now advanced him back to the top. My daughter had no homework and no grades were being sent home despite asking several times to see her work. She was in the 3rd grade. Her teacher kept saying that she was doing great! Finally, in February I saw that she was getting C's and D's!! My straight A student was no getting awful grades. Both the kindergarten and 3rd grade teachers ignored my kids because compared to the other kids they were doing great. This school teaches to the middle. (Not all Chapel Hill schools are great.) Open Quote This is a terrific school that educates a diverse group of children. It's a shame that the school digger ratings don't truly reflect how good this place is. If you are a parent who spends time helping your child with homework and gets involved in their schooling, then your child will do well in this school. The classrooms are huge and not overcrowded, the teachers really care, and the principle is very hands-on. Close Quote

Open Quote Because Northside is so new, it doesn't have the track-record of the other Chapel-Hill elementary schools, but being new also has its advantages. Having had children in several other Chapel-Hill elementary schools I can definitively state that Northside has the most innovative and modern approach to learning of any of the other schools. Sometimes when you have been doing the same thing for years it is hard to learn new tricks, which I have seen all too often at other schools.
Not to mention the lovely new facilities and brand new technology present at Northside. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
