Summary

Camden County High is the comprehensive public high school serving 457 students in grades 9–12 in Camden, NC, part of the highly rated Camden County Schools district. The school has climbed to 174th out of 662 North Carolina high schools — the 74th percentile with a 4-star rating — up sharply from the 45th percentile just two years ago. It now holds the strongest statewide ranking among traditional high schools in the area, ahead of Currituck County High, Northeastern High, Pasquotank County High, and Perquimans County High.

Academically, Camden County High students posted end-of-course proficiency rates well above state averages in every tested subject — Biology 78.1% vs. 58.5% statewide, English II 82.6% vs. 64.6%, Math I 60.5% vs. 42.1%, and Math III 73.1% vs. 68.9% — and the school led all nearby traditional high schools in Biology, English II, and Math I. Its graduation rate of 94.7% tops the state average of 88.8% and is the highest among neighboring high schools with available data, including Camden Early College High (88.9%), a small on-campus early college program that posts near-perfect test scores but graduates a smaller share of its students. Gains have been especially strong among student groups that often lag statewide: students from low-income families jumped from the 47th to 76th percentile, female students from the 38th to 76th percentile, and military-connected students from the 8th to 61st percentile over the past two years.

The biggest area to watch is attendance: chronic absenteeism rose to 24.6% in 2024–2025, up from roughly 17% the two prior years, though it remains below most neighboring schools such as Currituck County High (39.8%) and Pasquotank County High (30.9%). Math is also less consistent than English and science, with Math I proficiency swinging notably from year to year. Still, with strong test scores and a high graduation rate, Camden County High is no longer just keeping pace with regional peers — it has become the traditional high school to beat in northeastern North Carolina.
