Buncombe County Schools Virtual Academy is a small, K-12 virtual school in Asheville, NC, serving about 296 students through the Buncombe County Schools district.

Most striking is the gap between graduation and academic mastery. BCSVA graduates over 92% of its students — higher than the district (90.8%), state (88.8%), and nearby FernLeaf (63.3%) and IC Imagine (83.8%). Yet on standardized tests, BCSVA trails its district and state in nearly every subject, and is often well behind both charter schools. Past performance has been volatile: in 2023-2024, several grade levels scored above district averages, but results fell sharply in later years.
