Wilson Preparatory Academy is a K-12 public alternative school in Wilson, NC, serving about 725 students. It operates as its own district — the Wilson Preparatory Academy district — rather than belonging to a traditional local school system, meaning all grade levels are housed in one setting instead of being split into separate elementary, middle, and high schools. The school serves a very high-poverty population, with 98.6% of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch.

Despite those economic challenges, Wilson Prep shows several real strengths. Its graduation rate of 91.3% tops the state average of 88.8% and beats nearby Sallie B Howard School (82.1%), Rocky Mount Preparatory (81.3%), and Eastern NC School for the Deaf (62.5%).
