As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote They are not at all what they appear to be and or what they advertise! Their “small class sizes” are just actually small classrooms with upwards of 20 kids in each class. If your child has an IEP do NOT bring them here expecting it to be honored correctly. If they have learning differences or difficulties save yourself and your child the stress and send them somewhere else. Close Quote

Open Quote Excellent school where the students come first, individualized instruction is the norm, and teachers are valued and respected. Phoenix provides a safe, fun learning environment where every child can excel. Hands down the best school in the area! Close Quote

Open Quote This school is terrible. Our kids have been there for 4 years and every year has been worse then the one before. Not sure why we stayed. The class sizes and number of kids is HUGE and the actual all classrooms are tiny. The teachers are overworked and even have to come to teach Saturday school and do not get paid. When a teacher leaves they will not give them a letter of recommendation or even verify that they worked there so beware teachers- as a parent I have had many teachers ask me to write a review. The administration is horrible. The school could make positive changes if the current administration let go of power but that seems to not be something that will happen since they started the school and seem to be benefiting greatly with the salaries they make. The school grade has dropped lower and lower and now sits at 5th LOWEST charter school in NC! To bring this grade up guess what they did? They asked PARENTS to come in to tutor kids! If you go in to tutor no one ever knows why you are there and no materials are ever ready. Parents who want to tutor have to prepare their own materials- isn't that strange?! Speaking of parents they DO NOT want to work with or talk to parents at all. The Norcross's (people who started the school) say they will answer questions but they never do. they do not want any sort of parent organization and if you send questions be prepared to get a RUDE email back- how can any board of directors let this continue?! This year they told all 8th and 9th grade parents that there will be no high school starting next year. this is the 2nd time they have failed at having a high school. The made this announcement to these families just one day before applications were due at magnet schools. Deplorable. Horrible. Keep your kids out of this school if you want your family to be happy. Open Quote I highly recommend this school. We have been at Phoenix Academy for two years now. I wish it went past 5th grade. The first year we were here was beyond fantastic. The kindergarten teacher we had was so wonderful and caring it helped make the transition from pre-school to elementary school smooth. I am not as pleased with the 2nd year but have high hopes for next year. The teacher student ratio is fabulous. The class size is small enough that each student gets individualized care and no one gets missed (class size about 15 kids). This school has a zero tolerance for bulling with is extremely important to me. They do not have a typical playground which is one of the top places that students at regular public school get bullied. They do offer supervised outdoor play so the students are not missing anything by not having playground equipment. I am not sure of public school foreign language programs but my son is learning German thanks to Phoenix Academy. The technology that they are using in class allows students to see what other kids their age are doing in school all around the world. I can’t say enough good things about this school. I love it! About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
