As you review the school rankings data, please be aware that some of the information from certain demographics is missing. The reason for this omission is that the data has been redacted from the source data itself due to low population samples in these specific demographic groups.

Redacting data from low population samples is a necessary step to ensure the reliability and accuracy of the results, as small sample sizes may not be representative of the broader population. Additionally, this measure helps protect the privacy of individuals belonging to these demographic groups.

Open Quote My child was subjected to the worst sort of bullying at the school which included exclusion, physical and emotional abuse on a regular basis by various characters in the classroom (including teachers) for a number of years. Despite the significant evidence, the administration chose to turn a blind eye to the problem. Rather than protect the victim, they protected the perpetrators with "positive discipline". News flash.... "positive discipline" does not work with a high student to teacher ratio in a small classroom space, or in a school stressed to the max by budgetary issues. There are no consequences for bullies and "zero tolerance policy" for bullying in this particular school setting does not exist.

The school touts itself as an "expeditionary learning school" with "holistic" leanings. Newsflash -- this model does not work either in a school with high student/teacher ratio.

In addition, there are many behaviorally and academically challenged students here who need extra help. They simply don't get the extra help they require because there isn't the staffing or the funding available for it.

You may think based on all the glowing reviews about the school you can read on various on-line forums, and all the pretty photos on the school website, that your child would thrive here. You many think if you won the lottery to go to Evergreen that you are blessed indeed. The opposite is true. This secret is well known to the general population of Asheville, but few people challenge the Evergreen myth.

Evergreen may have been a great school back in the day. But not now. The truly dedicated teachers saw the writing on the wall a long time ago and left.

Lastly, they test the students all the time. So if you think you will avoid the NC testing mandates by putting your child in this type of charter school environment, you are wrong.

I wish I had never sent my child here. Close Quote

About Students eligible for discounted/free lunch:

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides low-cost or free meals to students in U.S. public and nonprofit private schools based on household income. Those with incomes below 130% of the poverty line receive free lunch, while those between 130% and 185% qualify for reduced-price lunch. The percentage of students receiving free or reduced-price lunch serves as a marker for poverty, as it reflects the socioeconomic status of families in a given school or district. A higher FRPL rate typically indicates a higher concentration of low-income families, suggesting that the school or district may face additional challenges in providing adequate resources and support for student success.

About Student-Teacher Ratio

Student/teacher ratio is calculated by dividing the total number of students by the total number of full-time equivalent teachers. Please note that a smaller student/teacher ratio does not necessarily translate to smaller class size. In some instances, schools hire teachers part time, and some teachers are hired for specialized instruction with very small class sizes. These and other factors contribute to the student/teacher ratio. Note: For private schools, Student/teacher ratio may not include Pre-Kindergarten.
